Overconcentration of Developmental projects in Accra ,problematic- Ransford Antwi
The Managing Director of Sunyani based Suncity radio, and a Director of Space fm, Mr. Ransford Antwi, has decried the phenomenon of successive Governments prioritizing the Greater Accra region over other regions in the country as regards developmental projects.
In an exclusive interview with Suncity radio, the visibly frustrated entrepreneur could not understand why almost every major project of successive governments have had to begin in the Capital.
Citing the 1992 Constitution, Mr. Antwi indicated that the Government has a responsibility to be fair in distributing the “national cake”.
Mr. Antwi’s call comes on the heels of Government’s decision to hire Singaporean architects to re-model Accra, a move he he thinks will be a waste of resources, at the expense of other regional capitals “What is the essence of this proposed project?” a bemused Mr. Antwi quizzed. “Accra is overcrowded because the government has concentrated every important state agency and machinery over there”, he continued.
“Rural-urban migration is always on the rise because successive governments have failed to evenly develop the rural areas to make life easier and attractive to the inhabitants”, he continued. “The solution to decongest Accra does not lie in any re-modelling but rather in developing the other regions so that people would be comfortable there and would not have to move to the Capital to seek greener pastures”, he concluded.
Senior Minister, honorable Yaw Osafo Marfo, has indicated that the government is undertaking a process to remodel the capital to improve the quality of life and general economic growth. The move has not been welcomed well by many Ghanaians, with the minority spokesperson on Roads and Transport, Kwame Agboza insisting that the move should have been opened for competitive bidding
